Cultural celebrations for Women’s Day

A group of international cultural organisations and embassies called “The International Cultural Group”, held an early celebration of the International Women’s Day commemoration with an event at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe on Saturday.
The International Women’s Day will be celebrated globally on Tuesday and the cultural group saw it fit to make an advance honour of this important day.

This year’s celebrations will be under the global United Nations theme: “Equal Access to Education, Training and Science and Technology: Pathway to Decent Work for Women.”

The International Cultural Group has over the last four years celebrated and honoured the day through various cultural activities aimed at showcasing Zimbabwean women’s talent, providing a day for women to network and celebrate their womanhood and also enjoy themselves.

Popular music teacher and Wo-Calling band member, Cecelie Giskemo, Rina Mushonga, Vee Mukarati and Bengt Post provided entertainment at the event.

The programme of the day included a screening of two documentaries courtesy of the International Images Film Festival.

The highlight of the day was a fashion show by two up-and-coming designers, courtesy of Antelope Communications.

“The show was meant to incorporate various forms of art that celebrate womanhood and we chose fashion to expose these women’s creativity as well as show the various aspects of this industry,” said programme organiser Melody Sango.

“Once again the world over celebrates with thousands of events being held throughout the globe to inspire women and celebrate their economic, political and social achievements past, present and future.

“This annual celebration is a global web of rich and diverse activities connecting women from all around the world through events including political rallies, business conferences, government activities and other social networking events in the women’s craft and art markets such as theatrical performances, fashion parades and more.”
