Midwest Rhinos recorded their third win in the ongoing domestic T20 tournament taking place in Harare, defeating Eagles by 18 runs yesterday.

Rhinos have only lost one match in the competition so far while third-placed Eagles have two wins and two defeats from four matches.

Yesterday, Eagles won the toss and chose to field first only for Rhinos to post 171 for the loss of eight wickets before Eagles fell short, managing 153 runs from 20 overs.

Having been asked to bat first, Rhinos made the most of using the pitch first with Jonathan Campbell scoring 46 runs from 32 balls at the top.

He smashed three boundaries and heaved as many maximums before falling just short of a half century, while Ryan Burl made an entertaining 35 off just 20 balls hitting four sixes in the process.  Eddie Byrom with 21 runs from 17 balls, as well as Brandon Mavuta, who made 26 from 17, were the other worthy contributors.

Tawanda Dzikiti was the pick of the bowlers for Eagles with 3 for 16 while Alex Falao and Matt Parkinson bagged two wickets each.

National team bowler, Tanaka Chivanga finished with 3 for 53 as Eagles struggled to keep Rhinos in check.

In reply, Eagles struggled with just three batsmen; two of them tail enders, making double figures.

Nick Welch top scored for his team with a 49-ball 68 with eight fours and one six before he became one of Neville Madziva’s two victims.

National team stars Tadiwanashe Marumani (9), Wessley Mdhevere (0) Chamu Chibhabha (3) all struggled in the weight of expectation.

Chivanga with 36 runs from 15 balls as well as Falao tried to get their team as close as possible to the target.

Meanwhile Lions, an academy side, succumbed to their fourth straight defeat, this time to Tuskers and by 15 runs.

Tuskers batted first and posted 170 runs with Clive Madande making 42 runs while Nkosana Mpofu (26), Taffy Mupariwa (30) and Luke Jongwe (22), all contributed.

In the Lions’ bowling camp, Kudakwashe Macheka had brilliant figures of 4 for 30 after bowling 3.1 overs while Tendekai Mataranyika took three scalps at the expense of 34 runs.

Hamid Ali scored 40 runs for Lions while Christopher Masika hit a quick-fire 42 from just 24 balls, but they could not guide their team to their first win in the competition.
