UNITED STATES-BASED Zimbabwean R&B singer Sambiri has released a new single titled Nyemwerera — a Shona word meaning “smile” — in a stirring tribute to resilience, perseverance and hope amid life’s hardships.
The single, released last Wednesday across digital and social media platforms, has drawn positive reactions from listeners who described it as an emotionally-rich offering that transforms sorrow into optimism through music.
Sambiri, born Innocent Tswamuno and formerly known as InnoMuno, said the inspiration for the song emerged while revisiting childhood memories captured in old family photographs.
“Nyemwerera started with a photo album. While flipping through old pictures of my siblings and I, I kept seeing the same thing: pure joy on our faces, despite the hardships in the background. That image stayed with me,” he said.
“I wanted to write a song for everyone I know who shows up everyday with courage, works and serves, follows their dreams and still finds a reason to smile.”
The accompanying video was shot in Mbare, one of Harare’s oldest high-density suburbs, whose vibrant streets and resilient communities mirror the song’s message.
“I shot the video in Mbare because that place said everything the song was trying to say. Every vendor, every mother, every hustler, you can see their work is hard, their lives are hard. But they’re smiling. They’re showing up. That’s Nyemwerera,” he said.
Sambiri praised the contribution of fellow artiste Kayflow, whose presence on the track adds a spiritual and reflective dimension to the song.

“I featured Kayflow, an incredible lyricist, who brings the spiritual dimension of that perseverance — that blessings and peace will come, that God is with us. And at the heart of it is a simple belief, mwana wevhu uchakunda, you shall conquer,” he said.
The collaboration has been welcomed as a strong example of artistic teamwork, with Sambiri embracing unity and creative partnerships to amplify meaningful storytelling through music.
His willingness to collaborate with Kayflow reflects a growing spirit among Zimbabwean musicians to build bridges across genres while addressing shared social realities.
Known for blending soulful R&B textures with Afro-fusion influences, Sambiri has steadily built a name for himself within Zimbabwe’s diaspora music community in New York.
His catalogue includes songs such as Kumusoro, Roora, Reason To Live and the EP Sambiri, which explore themes of identity, faith, relationships and endurance.
What stands out in Nyemwerera is Sambiri’s grassroots approach to storytelling.
Rather than glamorising struggle, the singer draws inspiration from ordinary people navigating economic hardships while refusing to surrender.
Through warm melodies and reflective lyrics, the song encourages listeners to smile through adversity, chase stress away and continue pursuing their dreams despite difficult circumstances.
“This song is for Mbare. It’s for the diaspora. It’s for anyone going through something quietly and still choosing to keep going,” Sambiri said.
Independent streaming statistics and chart performance figures for Nyemwerera are steadily on the rise everyday.
