As the piracy scourge continues to milk artists, some have devised ways of making sure that fast-growing technology does not unfairly benefit pirates.
Hip-hop artist Nicholas “POY” Muchinguri has gone high-tech with his new album titled Famous, uploading it on the Internet for free downloads.
POY, whose acronym stands for Proud of You, told NewsDay that he has seen the importance of using information communication technology to make his music available to the public.
“Things have changed now,” said the musician. Music can now be distributed in many forms and Internet is just one of the channels. Since we uploaded my album, we have had 120 downloads within a space of three weeks.”
POY said he uses the downloads to gauge the popularity of his music and this is a way of getting direct feedback and measure response to certain songs.
