Railstars off to Botswana

Railstars Volleyball Club have promised to put up a good performance when they take part in the Zone V1 Senior Club Championships set for Gaborone Friday.

The Bulawayo representatives in the championships depart today. They are among the teams who will do battle for the country in the games that will run from tomorrow until December 18.

Club organising secretary, Tichaona Muganu confirmed that they would leave tomorrow ahead of their crucial ties and said that the players were looking forward to taking part in the championships.

“I can confirm that we are leaving tomorrow (Saturday). We are travelling with twelve players for the championships and morale is very high in our camp,” said Muganu.

Muganu said Railstars want to play better than last year when they failed to win all their three matches at the same tournament in Durban, South Africa.

“We intend to get to the finals, we lost the three matches we played in Durban but we are a better team and we are better prepared this time,” he said.

Muganu also said that they were hoping to perform better in the club championships despite failing to play friendly matches in preparation for the championships.

“We have no competition, we wanted to play Bulldogs from Harare as part of our preparations but they turned us down,” he said.

In an interview with NewsDay Railstars coach Itsanang Abu-Basuthu said that they were confident they would bring medals this year.

“Our chances are very high. We will work hard in order to bring a medal from the championships,” he said.
Farai Muteveri will travel with the team as their technical team manager.

Other Zimbabwe clubs who will grace the event are Hawks and Bulldogs who will compete in the men’s category.

Jewel Stars and Chinhoyi University of Technology will battle in the women’s category.
