Popular hip-hop and R‘n’B producers Patrick and Shingirai Zimanyi and Gerald Machona will hold auditions next month for recording their latest project Zim Hip Hop Greats Volume 2 online album.
Zimanyi aka DJ Trickx and Machona aka Ginx Patrick are together known as the Mix Masterz Trio Team.
Their first online album, Zim Hip Hop Greats Volume 1 — recorded, mixed and mastered in Harare with some of the country’s leading rap artistes — Metaphysics, MC Chita and Q Rigga, was a success.
“This project, just like the first one, will be promoted and available only in online stores, blogs and websites and it is strictly a hip-hop rap project,” said Zimanyi.
He said they took some of the popular rappers that have been dominating the hip-hop circles since 1992 and marketed their music online to show that Zimbabwean musicians could also match international standards.
He said their aim was to make hip-hop more recognised within and outside Zimbabwe and also to create an industry that could provide artistes with a sustainable income.
“Other African countries like Angola, South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria, have managed to establish a hip-hop industry in which rappers are being paid very well and earning a living, so why not here?” asked Zimanyi.
The trio has become popular with one of their many online tracks, The Biggest Cipher, being promoted online mainly by people from other countries.
Shayzar said it was mainly people from overseas who responded to their first project and it was high time Zimbabweans appreciated and supported their own hip-hop/rap artistes.
Few Zimbabweans have access to online music.
He said they specialised in perfecting the art of high-end music production, hence the name The Mix Masterz. The trio runs under the management of German-based Metaphysics Gandanga Music label.
