Zimbabwe scooped the Under –14 International Tennis Federation African circuit tournament in Zambia on Wednesday when Thabile Tshatedi proved unstoppable by humbling Zambia’s second seed Caroline Zulu in the girls’ singles’ finals.
She won the match in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.
Malawi scooped the Under –14 version, while Zambia emerged victorious in the boys’ doubles.
In the finals played at Lusaka Club on Wednesday, Malawi’s Chipangano Sandukila had a good swing over Zambia’s Jackson Kalaba defeating him in two straight sets 6-2, 6-4.
Chipangano sailed through to the finals after silencing Pascaley Zulu of Zambia 6-3, 6-2.
Kalaba edged Malawi’s Willy Kaonde 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 in the semi-finals.
Zambia’s duo Kalaba and Zulu exhibited some exhilarating display in the boys’ doubles final against Malawi’s Chipangano and Kaonde, much to the amusement of spectators who shouted the slogan “One Zambia One Nation” in unison as the boys posted a 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory for Zambia.
Zambia Tennis Association senior vice-president Tolani Zulu expressed happiness at Zambia’s performance saying the players would now start shaping up for the third leg in Zimbabwe next week.
