In an incident that has left Muchesu villagers in Binga shell-shocked, a 35-year-old man allegedly broke into his mother’s hut and raped her once, a Binga magistrate has heard.
Alack Mponde was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate Stephen Ndlovu facing charges of contravening Section 65 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act (rape).
The magistrate remanded him in custody to September 9 when he is expected to appear before a Matabeleland North regional court.
Prosecutor Bruce Maphosa told the court that sometime between May and August this year Mponde broke into his mother’s hut twice with the intention to have sexual intercourse with her.
It is the state’s case that in the initial attempt, he broke into his mother’s hut in May at around 8pm and said he wanted to have sexual relations with her but the mother rebuffed him.
In August at around 11pm the man again broke into his mother’s hut and raped her once before leaving the scene.
It is the state’s case that in the morning the man’s mother made a report to police in Binga, leading to the arrest of her son.
