Zimbabwe set to host CAVB Zone VI Road to LA28 volleyball qualifiers

Sport

Zimbabwe will take centre stage in regional volleyball next month as Harare plays host to the CAVB Zone VI Senior Nations Championship Qualifiers from June 7 to 14, 2026, with five nations converging on the capital in a battle for qualification glory on the Road to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Zimbabwe, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa and Zambia will contest what promises to be an electrifying week of volleyball, with each nation fully aware that the stakes could not be higher.

The qualifiers serve as a critical stepping stone on the pathway to LA28, giving the tournament a weight and significance that elevates it well beyond a regional competition.

For Zimbabwe, hosting the tournament on home soil carries enormous responsibility and equally enormous opportunity.

The Zim-Zam International Friendly series against Zambia in Lusaka that is scheduled for 22-25 May 2026 is cited as preparation for precisely this moment, making the timing of the bilateral series all the more strategic.

South Africa will arrive as formidable opponents, while Zambia, fresh from hosting Zimbabwe in the Battle of the Zambezi, will be determined to make their presence felt on Zimbabwean soil. Malawi and Namibia complete a regional lineup that ensures no easy matches for any competing nation.

For Zimbabwean volleyball supporters, the tournament represents a rare opportunity to witness top-level continental volleyball at home while cheering the national team toward a dream of Olympic qualification.
