DYNAMOS FC have announced the suspension of the iconic number 2 jersey for the 2026 season.
The move serves as a tribute to outgoing captain Emmanuel Jalai, marking an emotional conclusion to his influential six-year tenure with the Harare giants.
The decision follows the expiration of Jalai’s contract in December 2025.
In a statement released via their official Facebook page on Monday, the club described the gesture as a mark of respect for a player who embodied leadership and unwavering loyalty.
While both parties initially intended to renew the contract for the 2026 campaign, the club revealed that interest from an unnamed foreign team shifted the narrative.
“Both Dynamos FC and Jalai had intended to conclude a new deal . . . However, interest from a foreign club emerged, reopening the door to Jalai’s long-standing professional ambition,” the club stated.
In recognition of his service, Dynamos opted to withdraw his shirt number from active duty for the upcoming season.
“As a result, the number 2 will not be part of the Glamour Boys’ squad for the upcoming 2026 season,” the statement confirmed.

Reflecting on their 63-year history, the Glamour Boys categorised Jalai among the elite few who have left a permanent mark on the institution.
His tenure was defined by remarkable consistency and a trophy-laden cabinet, including two Uhuru Cups, three consecutive Chibuku Super Cups and The Castle Challenge Cup.
Across more than 180 appearances, Jalai’s discipline and work ethic made him a cornerstone of the DeMbare defence.
The club noted that they “could not stand in his way” as he sought to test himself outside Zimbabwe’s borders.
Jalai himself confirmed his departure this past Sunday.
In a heartfelt message, he thanked the technical staff, his teammates, and the fans, describing the captaincy of Dynamos as a “lifelong honour”.
Dynamos concluded their tribute by reaffirming Jalai’s place in their history: “He will always remain part of the Dynamos family, and we will continue to support and celebrate his success.”
