Leader of Johhane The Fifth of Africa International Church, Archbishop Andby Makururu, says his prophecy that President Emmerson Mnangagwa will rule the country until 2030 is getting fulfilled after Cabinet recently approved draft legislation proposing major constitutional changes.
The proposed constitutional changes seek to increase presidential and parliamentary terms from five to seven years.
They also propose that Parliament elect the President, replacing direct voting by citizens.
Makururu made the one-party State remarks last year in an interview with NewsDay, claiming that elections in 2028 would be a waste of resources.
Makururu, who has held several meetings with Mnangagwa at State House, said there is a need for development in the country, which he said the President is leading. In an interview with NewsDay Live, Makururu said he was guided by God.
“What I said did not come from my head. It is a prophecy that our President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, will rule until 2030 and that there is going to be a one-party State in the country,” he said.
“We will continue to pray for the country. We want development in the country. This is why we are saying President Emmerson Mnangagwa should remain in office until 2030.“We don’t want elections. If we hold elections time and again, it will cost us as a country.”
Makururu has also made a number of other prophecies in the past, including that there would be post-election violence in Mozambique in 2024, a development that saw several people killed following disputed election results.
