President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) has been criticized as "detached from reality" by South African-based businessman and politician Joseph Makamba Busha.
Speaking at a press conference in Harare, the opposition FreeZim leader challenged the President's claim that Zimbabwe's economy is rebounding with a projected 6.6% growth rate this year.
“A jobless growth rate is not growth at all because the ordinary citizens have to feel it,” Busha stated.
He pointed to the continued exodus of Zimbabweans seeking work and goods in South Africa as the true measure of the economy's health.
“If the economy is performing, how come the majority of Zimbabweans are still flocking into South Africa?” he asked, noting that no single company in Zimbabwe employs 10,000 people.
Busha also suggested the President is being misled by his advisors.
“I hope that the president is not being lied to that there's a growth rate in our economy when in actual fact there is no growth,” he added.
