Ndlovu reflected on last weekend’s impressive victory over Caps United.

SCOTTLAND FC team manager and Zimbabwe football legend Peter Ndlovu has backed the ambitious Mabvuku-based side to shine and seize control of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League summit.

The legendary former Warriors captain believes his charges have the pedigree to dismantle fellow title contenders Herentals in a potentially explosive encounter at Rufaro Stadium tomorrow.

The blockbuster fixture sees both teams separated by nothing more than momentum and goal difference.

Scottland currently occupy second place, locked on equal points in a fierce four-way tie at the top with leaders Hard Rock FC, Herentals and Caps United.

Speaking on the club’s weekly Scottland Show on Thursday, Ndlovu reflected on last weekend’s impressive victory over Caps United.

While he acknowledged Herentals’ formidable form, he made it clear that Scottland have no intention of surrendering their championship momentum.

“To be fair, you have to respect them. They are dark horses and they’ve had a very good run of games,” he said.

“Of course, they are consistent, but at the end of the day, we can’t give them too much respect.”

Ndlovu warned that while pleasantries exist off the pitch, his squad is fully prepared for a battlefield environment.

“We respect them outside the field, but on the field, they want to take our position.

“No, no, no—it won’t happen.

“Our boys are aware of that.

“They’ve applied themselves in training and everything is just up there.”

However, the football icon urged his players to guard against complacency: “What we have to be careful of is when you’re up there, don’t forget the basics.

“Once you forget the basics, you come down very fast. They’ve been told to be careful.”

Scottland’s brilliant run has been anchored by a lethal combination of attacking efficiency and a rock-solid defence.

At the heart of that backline is goalkeeper Nelson Chadya, whose outstanding campaign has yielded an incredible 11 clean sheets, setting a record-breaking domestic run this season.

Ndlovu tipped his shot-stopper for higher honours, stating that Chadya has done more than enough to catch the eye of the national team selectors and that a Warriors call-up should be imminent.

“I said a few weeks ago that he’s probably drawing a call-up for the national team,” Ndlovu noted.

“I know I’m putting pressure on him, but 11 clean sheets—that’s a record. That’s very good.

“We pray that he’s going to be called, but at the moment, he’s doing a massive job for Scottland.”

Reflecting on the recent derby triumph against Caps United, Ndlovu revealed that a vibrant team culture and explosive starts are the secrets behind Scottland’s ability to shine.

“I’m always bubbly. Even if you’re coming from a loss, you must not look dejected. You must look lively so that it builds up to the next game,” he explained.

“Against Caps, the boys gave it all. When we start well like that, no team can match us.

“The energy in the dressing room was something else—you could see it from the bus to the stadium.”

Ndlovu also shared a lighthearted moment regarding the revamped National Sports Stadium pitch, admitting to a bit of jealousy compared to the playing surfaces of his era.

“The pitch was good. I just remembered during my time, it was not looking that good, so I was jealous!

“If it was those days, I probably would have missed more chances,” he laughed.

Ultimately, Ndlovu knows that maintaining their clinical edge in front of goal is what will propel Scottland to the absolute top.

“We talk about early goals—that settles the team.

“We can see now that the football is coming through and the goals are coming through.

“It’s just a matter of Scottland getting three points.”

Standing in their way is a confident Herentals side desperate to rewrite history.

The Students have never beaten Scottland and are eager to break that jinx while preserving their own winning streak.

With four clubs suffocating the top of the table, tomorrow’s clash at Rufaro will be a definitive litmus test of who possesses the resilience to sustain a genuine championship assault.
