The complainant is TelOne represented by Benard Nyamidzi, (52), a loss control officer at the parastatal.

A 45-YEAR-OLD man was yesterday sentenced to 10 years in jail for vandalising and stealing TelOne cables.

Deon Charles  Fernandes pleaded not guilty during trial before Harare Magistrate Ruth Moyo.

The complainant is TelOne represented by Benard Nyamidzi, (52), a loss control officer at the parastatal.

State witness Eddie Mambo said he saw Fernandes folding TelOne copper cables and putting them in a satchel.

The witness further testified that Fernandes tried to run away after he was caught red-handed stealing the drop cables.

Prosecutor Nomsa Kangara said on February 2 this year, the accused stole drop cables belonging to TelOne.

The court heard that the accused was spotted by Mambo who confronted him before he fled.

He, however, failed to make good his escape. Mambo apprehended him.
