Sanii, Machingura part ways

-

Leading urban recording label Heshi Mfeshi has parted ways with singer-cum-producer Lungisani Makhalima’s Umsindo Recording Studio after having worked together for almost a year.

Heshi Mfeshi is owned by Urban Grooves Association public relations officer Joe Machingura, who dismissed rumours doing the rounds in urban grooves’ circles that he and Makhalima had failed to click, leading to the split.

He said they had “a gentlemen’s agreement” to part ways after Makhalima had secured his own recording equipment.

“Sanii recently acquired his own studio equipment so since I had my own I felt it was better to move to another place and start my own thing separately,” said Machingura.

He said the two made the arrangement early last year with Makhalima offering the studio venue in the capital’s central business district while he contributed his studio equipment, thus they complemented each other.

He said from the beginning, they had even discussed their future considering Makhalima’s chances of one day acquiring his own equipment. They had agreed to part ways if that had happened.

“We are still very close and those rumour-mongers will be shocked to see us working together because despite all the talk going around, we are actually delighted to be expanding,” said Machingura.

He said people ought to realise that their move had been a wise one as it made more options available to the musicians.

Machingura said he realised how serious and far-reaching the rumours had become when he started receiving regular phone calls from various journalists asking him to comment on his so-called war with Makhalima.

“Umsindo Recording Studio is still home to me and you can find me just hanging around in there anytime, despite the fact that Heshi Mfeshi has moved to another base,” he said.

Efforts to get hold of Makhalima on Tuesday were in vain.

Together, Makhalima and Machingura have produced some of the most popular songs with artists like Shinso, Hinges, Leonard Mapfumo and other urban groovers who teamed up to record a song titled Happy Birthday Zimbabwe.
