Relegation-threatened Elite Boys face Caps United

-

Relegation-threatened Shooting Stars clash with Caps United at Rufaro Thursday hoping for a positive result to ease their relegation worries.

The Lazarus Magaya-coached side seats precariously on 13th position – the last relegation slot on the unbranded premiership log standings.

However, they meet a Caps United side who will be aiming to raise their game ahead of Sunday’s local derby against league contenders, Dynamos.

There were reports of discontent in the Caps United camp, which resulted in the club executive wielding the axe on Ronald Sengu and Leonard Tsipa and the team succumbed to Hwange 2-1 last Sunday.

Moses Chunga’s side dropped to seventh position on the log after the loss but could move into fourth position if they win today’s match.

Shooting Stars on the other hand have had a dismal season so far managing a paltry four wins from 24 matches and it’s not surprising that they find themselves in this predicament.

Magaya, who was formerly at FC Victoria, was roped in last week together with new technical director Rodwell Dhlakama but the move did not bring instant results as they were dismissed 0-1 by visiting Highlanders.

The Elite Boys’ new assistant coach Tonderai Marume said his team had been working with their strike force which has been firing blanks in recent matches.

“We have been dominating possession and we came short in finding the back of the net but we have been working hard to rectify that weakness. We are confident that we will collect maximum points from this game,’ said Marume, a former juniors coach at Caps United.

Marume also revealed that Malvin Tafirenyika, the younger brother to Pride Tafirenyika — who crossed the floor to Caps United at the start of the season — will not play after he was given his marching orders against Highlanders over the weekend.

The Elite Boys haven’t won since August 9 when they dismissed basement side Bantu Rovers 1-0 at Gwanzura but could still come within one point of 12th placed Lengthens with a win today. In the reverse fixture Caps United prevailed 1-0.
