Tuku to awaken sleepy Masvingo

The usually sleepy city of Masvingo is set to reverberate into life when music superstar, Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi descends on the country’s first urban settlement to perform at Club Oasis tonight.

Tuku will be supported by Harare rhumba outfit BV Labien Musica, reggae Manyika group Assegai Crew and urban grooves sensation Madiz.

Entertainment-starved music fans in the city who are eagerly awaiting the show are expecting nothing short of a night full of excitement from the music guru who last set foot in Masvingo over six years ago.

Show promoter Taurai Bucho Mudzviti said all is now set for the show and they were expecting Tuku fans to track down from as far as Gweru, Beitbridge and Kwekwe.

“Everything is now in place and we are waiting for the big night. We have created a large parking space with a boom gate so that we issue parking discs to motorists. I believe this is going to be the biggest show in Masvingo in a decade so security will be tight as we have secured the services of the police,” said Mudzviti.

Tuku’s fans are upbeat that the show will be one to remember.

“It’s going to be a big night for us here as you know our city has been docile in terms of entertainment. This week the show has been the talk of the city and every music- loving resident here is planning to attend the show,” said Milton Mbinyira,a fan.

There is great excitement as Tuku will bring variety to a town that has become so dependent on the sungura music diet.

“This time it’s different because we are not going to the usual sungura shows.

“The only time we have live shows is when the two sungura icons, Alick Macheso and Tongai Moyo, hold shows in the city on a few occasions during the year.

“People who like Tuku’s soft music will be treated to a good time and as you know it’s not everyone who likes the sungura beat,” said another fan Andrew Tazvivinga.
