The Ndebele paramount chief, Khayisa Ndiweni has died.
He died in his sleep during the early hours of Wednesday at his home in Ntabazinduna, about 30 km from here.
His death came three days after his 97th birthday celebrated at his homestead.
When NewsDay visited his homestead Wednesday afternoon, the chief’s body still lay in his house, waiting for the police and a doctor to attend the scene before taking the body to the morgue.
Ndiweni became Chief in 1939 and is one of the longest serving traditional leaders in the country.
Tents which were used during the traditional leader’s birthday on Saturday had not yet been dismantled.
