Zimbabwean long jumper Tafadzwa Chikomba has etched his name into the history books with a breathtaking performance at the NCAA Division, West First Round in Fayetteville, Arkansas, leaping to an all-conditions US collegiate record of 8.75 metres to shatter a mark that had stood for 32 years.

The Kansas State University junior produced the mammoth wind-aided jump of 8.75m, with a +3.2 m/s wind reading, on his very first attempt, surpassing the previous all-conditions collegiate benchmark of 8.74m set by Arkansas' Erick Walder all the way back in 1994. The numbers are staggering.

Chikomba's leap stands as the 19th furthest long jump in world history across all conditions and represents the biggest global all-conditions jump recorded since 2019, a achievement that transcends collegiate athletics and plants a Zimbabwean firmly among the world's elite jumpers.

As if breaking a 32-year-old record was not enough, Chikomba won the competition by a jaw-dropping margin of nearly 70 centimetres on a single attempt, comfortably securing his qualification for the upcoming NCAA Championships in Eugene.

For Zimbabwe, a nation that has been producing remarkable athletics stories in recent months, Chikomba's achievement adds another golden chapter to what is becoming an extraordinary year for the country's track and field programme.
