The eight teams that took part in the event competed in a round-robin format with the top four teams going through to the semi-final stage.

So dominant were Chegutu that they finished unbeaten in the round-robin stage and amassed a total of 21 points from seven matches. In the first semi-final, Chegutu beat Chinhoyi University of Technology 2-1 after sudden death extra time while in the second semi-final encounter Lomagundi 4 accounted for Lomagundi 2 by a 3-1 scoreline.

In the final, Chegutu conjured a 2-1 sudden death extra-time victory over Lomagundi 4 to win the Chinhoyi round of fixtures. The next round of fixtures will take place at Bryden Primary School in Chegutu on June 21 followed by the last round at Banket Primary School on July 26.

Hockey Association of Zimbabwe vice-president Humphrey Chigwedere described the tournament as a success.

“The turnout was encouraging and the commitment as well the enthusiasm shown by the participants was equally encouraging showing positive signs of revival of formal hockey activities in Mashonaland West Province,” Chigwedere said.
