My lords, here is what is happening in Zimbabwe

Godfrey Karembera, arrested kept in pretrial detention for eight months, acquitted at the close of the state’s case. Takunda Mhuka and Emmanuel Sitima, leaders of the Zimbabwe National Students Union arrested and kept in pretrial detention for two months, currently on bail.

Job Sikhala arrested and spent two years in pre-trial detention – acquitted. Hopewell Chin’ono journalist arrested and spent 80 days in pre-trial detention, acquitted. Jacob Ngarivhume arrested and spent 76 days in pre-trial detention, acquitted. Lovemore Madhuku, law professor, beaten up by state agents at his party office for opposing Constitutional Amendment Bill 3. No arrests of perpetrators at the moment.

My lawyer and good friend Doug Coltart was assaulted in front of live TV and his phone stolen, although the culprit who stole the phone was recorded on camera and is known, police have not taken any account
