Epworth man stabbed repeatedly for 'spurning' hero's burial

Local News

Epworth man Dillon Chisango was allegedly stabbed multiple times and left for dead for 'refusing' to attend national hero Evaristo Dzihwema's burial on Monday.

Chisango, 27, is reportedly battling for life at Parirenyatwa Hospital's intensive care unit.

This emerged Tuesday when the suspect, Bignews Zvarevashe, appeared in court facing an attempted murder charge.

He was remanded in custody by magistrate Jessie Kufa.

Allegations are that on July 5 this year at around 7:30pm at Manjemanje Shops in Waterfalls, Zvarevashe was mobilising people to attend Dzihwema's burial at the National Heroes Acre. Chisango allegedly indicated that he could not attend the event as he was supposed to report for work.

This did not go down well with Zvarevashe, who in a fit of rage, allegedly stabbed Chisango repeatedly with a broken beer bottle.

As a result, Chisango reportedly sustained deep cuts on the chest, chin, back, head and left palm.

The court heard that Chisango was later rescued by members of the public who rushed to the scene and effected a citizen's arrest on Zvarevashe.
