Iris Nozizwe Mhlanga has been nominated as ambassador for the 2025 Women Changing the World Regional Awards.

GLOBAL health advocate Dr Iris Nozizwe Mhlanga has been nominated ambassador for the 2025 Women Changing the World Regional Awards, aimed at recognising and amplifying the impact of women leaders in combating gender-based violence, improving maternal health and promoting leadership among young women.

The 2025 regional award winners will be announced online in November 2025, with finalists from major categories expected to advance to the global stage, with the international ceremony set to take place in Paris next April.

The awards, which celebrate outstanding female leaders in fields such as sustainability, humanitarian work, technology, education and innovation, aim to empower women across the globe.

According to event organisers, the initiative seeks not only to recognise individual accomplishments, but also to inspire others to create change in ways both big and small.

In a statement, Mhlanga said she was committed to transforming lives through education, empowerment and equitable healthcare.

With over two decades of experience in public health and community development, she has spearheaded initiatives to uplift marginalised populations across Africa, particularly women and children.

Her work has included tackling gender-based violence, improving maternal health outcomes and building leadership among young women.

“True change begins when we empower others to see their worth and claim their space,” she said.

“Every life touched, every barrier broken, is a step towards a more compassionate world and that it is the legacy she strives to build.

“By nominating yourself or a woman you admire, you’re not just celebrating achievement you’re amplifying impact.

“Your voice matters. Your journey matters. And your courage to step forward could be the spark that empowers countless others.”

On what advice she would offer others seeking to make a difference, Mhlanga emphasised purpose and perseverance.

“It’s not about having all the answers it’s about showing up with courage, compassion and conviction.

“When you lead with purpose and serve with heart, even the smallest action can ignite a ripple of transformation.”
