Two perish in accident on the way to ED birthday bash

HARARE, Sep.17, 2025 (NewsDay Live) – Two Zanu PF members died while two others were seriously injured in a road accident along the Gweru-Zvishavane Road on Monday.

The ruling party members were travelling to President Emmerson Mnangagwa's 83rd birthday celebrations in the Midlands town.

Police said the victims Toyota Hilux truck collided with a Zupco bus at the 100-kilometre peg, resulting in the fatalities.

“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which resulted in the deaths of two individuals, with two others sustaining injuries,” police said.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Zvishavane District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem, while the injured have been admitted at the same health institution for treatment.

One of the deceased has been identified as Nokutenda Alicia Sambare from Karoi in Mashonaland West province.
