Zenda Gallery milestone marks Zim’s international art expansion

Life & Style

IN a striking and breath-taking display of Zimbabwe’s evolving visual narrative, contemporary artists affiliated with Artgal.online have taken their work to Hamburg, Germany, presenting a textured exhibition that explores identity, memory and the human condition.

The exhibition, titled Souls & Stories, is running at Nissis Kunstkantine in Hamburg’s HafenCity district from April 22 to May 18, 2026.

Curated under the patronage of Flatter Zenda in partnership with Culture Dialogue Arts, the showcase brings together Zimbabwean voices alongside international artists, reinforcing growing cross-cultural exchange within the global visual arts space.

At its core, the exhibition features renowned visual artists Flatter Zenda, Keith Zenda and Barry Lungu, whose works interrogate themes of heritage, belonging and lived experience through diverse visual mediums.

“This exhibition is a gateway to Zimbabwe,” said Flatter Zenda. “We share our country’s stories, energy and beauty.” His remarks underline the broader ambition of positioning Zimbabwean art as both a cultural ambassador and a catalyst for tourism and international interest.

Souls & Stories is not only an exhibition but part of a deliberate push to internationalise Zimbabwean art while strengthening local creative platforms that sustain artistic production.

The showcase is supported by Artgal.online and anchored by the growing presence of Zenda Art Gallery in Domboshava, which is steadily emerging as a creative hub for contemporary Zimbabwean expression. Organisers say the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to expand Zimbabwe’s artistic footprint globally.

In a joint statement of intent, Flatter Zenda said:

“I am proud to represent Zimbabwean talent in Germany alongside Keith Zenda and Barry Lungu through this group exhibition. With our platforms, Artgalonline and ArtgalZim Domboshava, we are expanding Zimbabwe’s presence and tourism through art. Souls & Stories is a dream come true — sharing Zimbabwe’s heartbeat with Hamburg has been incredible. The energy is palpable; we are connecting cultures, sparking curiosity and placing Zimbabwean art on the global map. I’m deeply grateful to our partners and everyone supporting this journey.”

While the exhibition signals clear progress in international exposure, verification remains outstanding regarding the scale of participation, long-term institutional partnerships between Artgal.online and Culture Dialogue Arts, and visitor or collector engagement figures, which were not immediately available at the time of publication.

Art exhibitions and galleries continue to serve as vital conduits of cultural exchange, offering more than aesthetic appreciation. They create spaces where histories intersect, perspectives are challenged and mutual understanding is cultivated.

For Zimbabwean artists, platforms such as Souls & Stories provide critical visibility, enabling dialogue that transcends borders while affirming national identity within the global arts ecosystem.

As Zimbabwean art continues to travel, initiatives rooted in spaces like Domboshava demonstrate how local creativity can resonate internationally — shaping narratives that are both deeply personal and universally relevant.
