Sulu sets the ball rolling at Spillway

-

Spillway Pub and Restaurant will on February 5 host Dendera music superstar Sulumani Chimbetu who will perform at their first show of the year dubbed the “2011 Kickstart Show” at Lake Chivero.

Spillway hosted the massive show with Jamaican reggae artist King Sounds together with other local artistes including the Transit Crew and Legendary Sounds towards the end of 2010 and has promised to continue hosting some of the biggest events in 2011.

“The show will be Sulu’s first- ever performance at Spillway and it will be different from most his performances as there will not be any supporting acts but it will be a total Sulu affair,” said Spillway Pub and Restaurant director Kenneth Madangure.

Madangure said the show will mainly focus on promoting Sulu’s latest album Non Stop which was released end of last year and has since received a good response from his fans.

He said although they had plans of hosting other internationally acclaimed superstars they would use this year to focus more on uplifting and promoting local artists by giving them as much performing space as possible.

“We are going to show the fans that Sulu is certainly a force to reckon with in the Zimbabwe music industry and that he is a strong man as well because he will perform alone throughout the night,” said Madangure.

Madangure, who is also the marketing manager of Emperor Productions, the team that brought King Sounds to Zimbabwe, said he believed there was so much great talent in Zimbabwe that 2011 was their year to unveil it.

Sulu’s manager, Knowledge Nkoma, said all those who will attend should expect “fireworks” as this was going to be “a unique first performance”.

He said party people could also expect fireworks at Spillway throughout the year with local artists like Alick Macheso, Oliver Mtukudzi and Mike Madamombe popularly known as Mic Inity.

Since launching the 8-track album Non Stop Sulumani has become the talk of town especially with the popular song Kwedu, a duet he did with superstar Oliver Mtukudzi which seems to have become the most popular of the tracks.
