Eagles’ Chairman’s Trophy will be hosted by Ruwa Country Golf Resort on Saturday. This is Eagles’ biggest golf event of the year.
Last year the tournament was held at Wingate with prize-giving conducted at Borrowdale Race Course.
James Mtizwa, the chairman of Eagles Golf Society, has promised that this year the event would be bigger and better.
A field of more than 100 is expected. Players will tee off from both tees at 8:30am. The field will close an hour later.
Twenty-two major prizes and 17 minors have been secured. Also on offer will be goats and pigs for a free braai late in the afternoon.
Ruwa, as usual, promises the best course. In order to encourage best golfing, a number of holes have been allocated birdie prizes.
However, the holes will not be made public until the field has completed play. Players are therefore encouraged to score birdies on every hole.
Mtizwa revealed that the new designer uniforms, provided by Askeland Media, would be unveiled on the day.
Proceeds from activities within Eagles will be donated to charity. The Eagles chairman promised to make further donations before Christmas.
Hot favourite to win the trophy is Cony Mashiri, who has not missed the podium each time Eagles has held its monthly tournament.
Bookmakers would also tip Blessing Gandawa, Brian Chitsunge, Loveness Chandavengerwa, Charles Makirimani, Ali Bin Hassim, Stan Muvudzi, Wilfred Mwedzi and Patrick Majiri for the major prize. Next weekend on December 18 and 19, Falcon Golf Club will host their inaugural two- day Major Pro-Am.
Details of this event will be covered next Friday.
