Chief Ndiweni buried


Thousands of people Wednesday braved the chilly weather to take part in an emotional sendoff of the Ndebele paramount Chief Khayisa Ndiweni
who was laid to rest in Ntabazinduna, about 30km from Bulawayo.

People from all walks of life including Acting President John Nkomo, deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara, Speaker of Parliament Lovemore Moyo, his deputy Nomalanga Mzilikazi Khumalo, deputy Senate President Naison
Khutshwekhaya Ndlovu, Chiefs Council president Fortune Charumbira and his deputy Chief Mtshane thronged the Ndiweni homestead to bid him farewell.

The crowd included government officials, traditional leaders, local villagers, farmers and captains of industry and commerce.

Ministers Gorden Moyo (Parastatals and State Enterprises), Sithembiso Nyoni(Small to Medium Scale Enterprises) and Webster Shamu(Media,
Information and Publicity) attended the burial.

Other politicians from the Matabeleland region, who included Dumiso Dabengwa, Thenjiwe Lesabe and Matabeleland North Governor Sithokozile
Mathuthu also attended the funeral.

Nkomo, described Ndiweni as a brother and an adviser.

“He always used to remind me and President Mugabe whom he called by his first name Robert, that unlike ours, his status was permanent and he was born a chief and was not an elected leader like some of us. No matter what position I held, he was my senior,” he said.
