Young Sables off to Ivory Coast

The Zimbabwe Under-19 team convenor of selectors Rick Kershaw yesterday announced a 23-man squad for the Junior Rugby World Cup tournament that takes place in the Ivory Coast starting on Saturday.
The championships will also act as qualifiers for the next Junior Rugby World Cup Trophy.
Zimbabwe will travel with a 23-man squad coached by Brighton Chivandire, while Dennis Boddy will be the physiotherapist. Under-19 chairman Aaron Jani will be the head of delegation. The Young Sables leave for the Ivory Coast tomorrow morning.
The squad is made up of a mixture of seasoned junior players and others who are still finding their way in national junior rugby tournaments like the Craven Week.
Prince Edward’s Farayi Jijita, St Johns’ Graham Logan, and the Lomagundi duo of Shane Joubert and Ben Viljoen are in the team.
The youngsters will be ably supported by the experience of three players who took part at the Junior World Rugby Trophy in Russia in May. These include Prince Edward’s Charles Jiji, Luke Rutter from Lomagundi and Takudzwa Jaravaza as well as England-based Marko Mama and Peterhouse flanker Takudzwa Mandiwanza. Chivandire said they were going all-out for victory in the tournament.
Said Chivandire: “The team that we are travelling with is strong enough to win the competition and anything less than winning the trophy will not be ideal, that’s why we want to win the competition at all costs. Zimbabwe has one of the best junior rugby development structures in the world and we have to stay at the top.”
