Tobacco chief skips court again

The trial of Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board Chief Executive Officer Andrew Matibiri that was scheduled for Tuesday last week was postponed to March 4 because the accused had to be at the auction floor.

Matibiri, 50, is facing allegations of illegally accessing grower’s numbers for Saltlakes Investment a company owned by Zanu PF Mashonaland West secretary for Lands Temba Mliswa to access his “spoilt” tobacco to be sold at the sales floor.

The matter, which was to be heard at Mbare Magistrate Courts, has been rescheduled for 4 March.

The state alleges that Matibiri abused his powers of authority and acquired eight grower’s numbers for Mliswa’s company instead of the required one per company.
