Samsung Electronics has introduced a GPRS smart dual-sim phone designed for cost-sensitive operators as the mobile phone company aims to expand its range of low-cost mobile phones.
In a statement, Samsung Africa product manager Jaco van Zyl said the new Samsung Chief Hero dual-sim phone suits the needs for developing countries, especially those in Africa.
“Following the successful launch of our chief range earlier this year, we have seen that there is a need for mobile phones that suit the unique needs of developing countries and more importantly, Africa,” van Zyl said.
Samsung Electronics is a global leader in semi-conductor, telecommunication, digital media and digital convergence technologies with 2011 consolidated sales of $143,1 billion.
“As such, the Samsung Chief Hero mobile phone is a smart dual-sim phone that is targeted at these markets.”

The company said significant percentage of mobile phone users in Africa carried multiple sim cards to take advantage of the different pricing plans on offer from various operators.
By allowing users to automatically switch between two sim cards without having to carry an additional handset or turn off the phone to swop a sim, Samsung said it was aiming to meet such critical needs in the market with its dual-sim technology. .About the phone The Samsung Chief Hero supports GPRS dual band technology and with a 1 000mAh battery, boasts an 11-hour talk time and 550 hours of standby time and it has the 1,8 TFT screen, MP3 and FM radio.
