Life & Style
The Castle Tankard Live at Borrowdale Racecourse

THIS Mother’s Day weekend, the city serves up a vibrant mix of unmissable events — from soul-stirring worship to live music legends and intimate acoustic sessions — ensuring every mother in the capital is treated to something special.

Saturday: The Castle Tankard Live at Borrowdale Racecourse

Saturday afternoon belongs to the legends as The Castle Tankard — an institution since 1960 — takes over Borrowdale Racecourse for a star-studded live music showcase running from 11am to 730pm.

The line-up reads like a who’s who of Zimbabwean music royalty. Sungura giant Alick Macheso headlines alongside Jah Master, Nisha Ts, Uncle Epaton, Madedido, Progress Chipfumo, and Ndunge Yut. Expect a high-energy blend of sungura, gospel, and urban sounds designed to keep the crowd on its feet all afternoon.

Best of all — entry is FREE.

Please note: this is strictly an 18+ event. No drink-driving.

Free & Found — Worship in Spirit and in Truth

As the sun sets, the mood shifts to a deeply spiritual atmosphere with the Jesus Initiative’s Free & Found worship concert at the Celebration Centre Amphitheatre, 162 Swan Drive, Borrowdale. The programme begins at 6pm.

The event features celebrated worship leader Takesure Zamar Ncube and South African gospel star Khaya Mthethwa, alongside Hush SA and local collective The Unveiled.

It promises an evening of powerful, spirit-filled worship. Early bird tickets were US$10, gate entry is US$15, and limited VIP seats are available. Children under 13 enter free.

Sunday: Sylent Nqo Country Tour — Mother’s Day Experience

Sunday is reserved for something more intimate and celebratory as Guitar Sangoma Arts brings Sylent Nqo’s 2026 Country Tour to The Backspace Lounge, Grill & Bar at 4 Victoria Drive, Newlands, for a special Mother’s Day experience.

The show starts at noon, and in a generous gesture, entry is free — guests simply pay what they wish at the door.

Expect Mother’s Day specials, surprise moments, and an afternoon of warm, soulful live music in a relaxed setting, perfect for treating mum to something memorable.
