New track Stimela resonates with homesick hearts

A NEW song titled Stimela is quickly capturing the attention of music lovers with its emotional story of love, distance and longing for home.

What began as a casual studio session between two homesick artistes has grown into one of the most relatable tracks currently resonating with listeners.

Rising artiste Flyvour Nyathi, popularly known as FLY, has teamed up with Umfanomsotho on the moving new release Stimela, a song that blends love, nostalgia and the emotional realities of living far away from home.

Inspired by their experiences of staying in Bulawayo while originally coming from Gwanda, the song taps into the loneliness, longing and emotional frustration many people experience when working or living far from their loved ones.

According to FLY, the song came together naturally during a two-day music creation session with Umfanomsotho.

“We had been in Bulawayo for quite some time and thoughts of home kept attacking me. Then I just found myself singing, ‘Stimela mbeke emakhaya’. That’s where everything started,” he said.

Although the original inspiration came from homesickness, the artistes decided to creatively transform those emotions into a love story rather than focusing directly on family struggles back home.

“The creativity had to take over. Instead of talking about family issues or problems happening at home, we turned it into a story about someone being away while another man is causing problems in his relationship,” FLY explained.

That relatable storytelling has become one of the key reasons Stimela is resonating strongly with listeners across different generations.

The song particularly connects with people in long-distance relationships and workers who only get to see their families occasionally. FLY believes the track takes listeners down memory lane while reminding them to appreciate the people they love.

“It drives people into that memory lane. It gives them that sense of valuing the loved ones they left behind,” he added.

Musically, Stimela stands out for its rich fusion of sounds. The artistes intentionally blended old-school influences, maskandi-inspired guitar strings and a nostalgic bubblegum groove to create a vintage feel that still sounds fresh and modern.

“The song was intentional from the beginning,” FLY said. “The melodies, the lyrics and even the nostalgic feeling were all carefully planned.”

The title Stimela, which means train, also carries deeper cultural significance. FLY said the concept was inspired by stories shared by parents and grandparents about travelling long distances by train while working far away from home in earlier generations.

“They used to tell us stories about leaving at dawn to catch the train home after working far away. We wanted to tell those stories in a way that our generation could understand and relate to,” he said.

Despite the emotional depth of the song, FLY revealed that recording Stimela was one of the most enjoyable studio experiences he has had.

“We didn’t really face challenges while making the song. We were actually having the time of our lives,” he said.

The collaboration also marks an important moment in FLY’s career. Although he has worked behind the scenes with Umfanomsotho on several previous projects, Stimela has allowed him to step more confidently into the spotlight and experiment more openly with his vocals and creativity.

“This project allowed me to spread my wings more and really put my skills on the table,” he said.

Even without an official music video, Stimela is already spreading rapidly and receiving strong reactions from listeners who continue to connect with its message, sound and emotional storytelling.

“The song’s tempo is very engaging. Everyone seems to connect with it and relate to it,” he said.

With the growing success of Stimela, FLY says fans can expect more new sounds and projects as he steps further into the spotlight in the music industry.
