Harare — Malawi are out to spoil the party for the Zimbabweans as they get ready to meet in a 2017 Caf Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) football qualifier at the National Sports Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

– SuperSport The Flames are set to revive their pride after losing their previous qualifier against Guinea in March. They remain rooted at the bottom of Group L with two points from as many draws and have not tasted a victory thus far.

Coach Ernest Mtawali is aware of the responsibility to get a win and will now rally behind his troops to stun their hosts at home. Although they are out of the race to reach Gabon next year, a win will take them to second spot.

That, however, will be determined by the outcome of the tie between Guinea and Swaziland on the same day.

In the reverse tie, the Flames succumbed to a 2-1 loss against Kaliator Pasuwa’s side and will now also want to bag a win to settle the score.

Ahead of the match, Josephy Kamwendo said they will fight harder and also expressed confidence of coming back with a result.

“As the players team the only way we will get stronger is when we get your support – support not only from Carlsberg or the Association, but the media and public,” Kamwendo said.

“We will release our energies and be more positive, get the attitude right and try to win the match. “There is very little you can do in terms of being better than you were yesterday, but I am optimistic we will get a result.

“The players are feeling down, and it’s normal but we are all professionals and it happens in football.” Shifting focus to the hosts, Zimbabwe will also want a win to boost their hopes of reaching Gabon next year as they still top the standings.

The Warriors have eight points from four matches and a win takes them to 12 points which will mean they have to win their final match against the Syli Nationale.

Their first leg 2-1 win away gives them an advantage to seal the victory at home and the 4-0 win over Swaziland in March is set to motivate them.
