Zimbabwe forward Denford Mutamangira will be in the starting line-up of Scottish top-flight rugby team Ayr against local rivals, Gala, in the RBS National Scottish Cup final at Murrayfield Stadium today.
The steely former Harare Sports Club prop Mutamangira (27) has been a revelation at Ayr since joining the top Scottish club in early February. In recognition of Mutamangira’s input in Ayr since joining the club, coach Kenny Murray yesterday named the former Churchill schoolboy in the starting line-up.
A win for Ayr at Murrayfield today will see them become the first Scottish club to win the coveted title for three years in a row while for Mutamangira it will guarantee him his first winners’ medal.
Three weeks ago the Sables front rower opened his account with a crucial try during the semi-final clash against Boroumough which they went on to win 30-25 in a tense encounter at Millbrae.
Mutamangira was one of key players in the Sables’ team which completed the whole of last season unbeaten in the Confederation of African Rugby Africa Cup and the Victoria Cup.
Meanwhile on the local front, log leaders Harare Sports Club will be out to maintain their unbeaten record in the National Rugby League when they travel way to Gweru Sports Club today.
Wounded former champions Old Hararians travel to Bulawayo for a date againist in-form Matabeleland Warriors in the main match at Hartsfield today.
In earlier matches at Hartsfield, defending champions Red Seal Old Georgians take on Panthers while winless Old Miltonians battle against fellow strugglers Airforce.
