Owen Muzondo starred for the Gladiators while Munashe Chipara shone for Takashinga Patriots 1, as both sides registered dominant Vigne Cup victories over the weekend.
Yesterday, Gladiators crushed Old Hararians by eight wickets with 54 balls to spare at the Old Hararians Sports Club.
The hosts initially showed promise thanks to Muhammad Zaheer Tufail’s brisk 38 off 18 balls. However, Muzondo dismantled the middle order, ripping through the lineup to claim incredible figures of 4 for 3 from 3.5 overs.
Malcom Chikuhwa (2/19) and Cromen Zinyama (2/4) shared the spoils as Old Hararians collapsed from 76/5 to 86 all out in 17.5 overs.
The chase proved to be a mere formality. Lennox Chando blasted 53 off 26 balls, reaching his half-century in just 24 deliveries with a flurry of eight fours and two sixes. Chando shared a 53-run opening stand with Ambitious Muduma before the Gladiators cruised to 87/2 in 11 overs, with Milton Shumba (17*) steering the side home.
A day earlier, Chipara produced a devastating spell of 5 for 19 as Takashinga Patriots 1 bowled Alex Cricket Club out for a meager 62 in 20.4 overs.
Tanaka Chivanga set the tone by removing the Alex captain with the very first ball of the match, allowing Chipara to rip through the middle and lower order. Tapiwa Mufudza provided excellent support, chipping in with 2 for 10.
The modest target lasted just 8.3 overs. After Tafadzwa Mahachi contributed 13, Tatenda Banda (15) and Spencer Magodo (12*) safely guided the Patriots to 63/1, sealing a comprehensive nine-wicket victory.
