WITH three matches left before the curtain comes down on the first half of the season, Ngezi Platinum Stars coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziwa believes unity inside his dressing room could be the key ingredient to an unforgettable campaign.
The Mhondoro-based side has quietly emerged as one of the league’s most consistent outfits despite beginning the season under difficult circumstances that threatened to derail their ambitions before a ball was kicked.
A Fifa-imposed transfer ban over unsettled payments involving former coaches Benjani Mwaruwari and Bongani Mafu restricted the club’s movements in the market, while several senior players departed during the off-season. Some of the exits followed former coach Takesure Chiragwi to Caps United.
Yet instead of crumbling, Ngezi appear to have grown stronger.
Their emphatic 4-2 victory over Bulawayo Chiefs at the weekend further underlined the growing belief within the camp that the current group can challenge for silverware and possibly script a historic unbeaten run.
Mutiwekuziwa said teamwork has become the foundation of the club’s success this season, insisting that collective effort matters more than individual brilliance.
“I always tell the team that nothing beats teamwork regardless of quality because football is all about the team,” said Mutiwekuziwa.
The coach explained that players who work together, share responsibilities, and communicate well on the field find it difficult to overcome. He believes the unity displayed by his squad is proving his message right every week.

“No one will beat a team that comprises individuals who work together and share ideas and responsibilities on the field of play,” he said.
Despite the transfer ban and departure of key players at the start of the season, Mutiwekuziwa said he has remained calm because of the attitude and commitment shown by the current squad.
“That is why we are not even worried about the ban. The players are improving every week, and they continue to discover their abilities through playing regularly,” he said.
The Ngezi coach also revealed that the confidence and enjoyment within the camp are pushing the team to dream bigger with every passing week.
“The players are enjoying themselves at the moment, and it is going to push us. We look forward to it continuing because we always work as a team,” he said.
His words reflect the spirit currently driving the miners, who have transformed adversity into motivation.
While other clubs may boast star-studded squads, Ngezi’s rise has largely been built on discipline, organisation, and a strong collective mentality. Their ability to remain competitive after losing experienced players has become one of the biggest talking points of the season.
