CORRECTIONAL Queens climbed to the top of the Zimbabwe Women Premier Soccer League table with a 2-0 win over Chapungu Queens in a top-of-the-table clash at Manyame Sports Club on Saturday.

The result took Correctional Queens to 15 points, two clear at the summit. Both sides entered the match tied on 12 points, with Chapungu leading on goal difference.

Correctional Queens led 1-0 at halftime and added a second after the break to secure a fifth straight win. Goalkeeper Chido Dzingirai kept her fifth consecutive clean sheet in the process.

“I’m proud of the girls for sticking to the plan and showing discipline in both halves. Five wins and five clean sheets don’t happen by chance; it’s about hard work in training and belief in the group,” head coach Tsitsi Shiri said after the match.

Herentals Queens moved into second on 13 points after a dominant 14-0 win over Rise of Hope Sports Academy at Gwanzura Stadium in Highfield, Harare, on the same day. The Students were ruthless from the start, racing into a 5-0 lead inside 20 minutes and never letting up. The result was the biggest scoreline of the weekend and underlined the defending champions’ attacking firepower.

Platinum Queens sit third, level on points with Herentals, while Chapungu drop to fourth on 12 points.

Elsewhere in Matchday 5, Kwekwe Queens beat Conduit SA 3-1, Chegutu Community edged Ngezi Platinum Queens 2-1, and Platinum Royals edged Mpopoma SA 1-0. Rufaro Starlets got past Faithdrive Academy 1-0, while Black Rhinos registered a 5-0 win over Cranborne Royals.

At the bottom, Rise of Hope Sports Academy remain without a point. Ngezi Platinum Queens are 15th on one point, tied with Conduit Soccer Academy and Caps United Royals. Caps United Royals sit 13th on two points.

Correctional Queens will look to extend their unbeaten run and clean sheet streak when league action resumes next weekend.
