THE Zimbabwe Footgolf Association is finalisng preparations to host its first-ever African Footgolf Championships from November 22 to 26 in Victoria Falls.
Seven countries — South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Morocco, Benin and Congo Brazzaville — have confirmed their participation.
Angelica Garira, Zimbabwe National Footgolf marketing, media and communication manager, told NewsDay Sport the board marks the four national tournaments held in different provinces as the final selection for the upcoming regional competition.
“We have four successful national tournaments which served as qualifiers: Mashonaland Central Patron's Footgolf Tournament, the second one was Bulawayo's National Footgolf Tournament, then there was the Harare Ladies Kickers Tournament, and finally, the Midlands National Footgolf Tournament,” she said.
Zimbabwe Footgolf is confident that they will be up to the task.
“We are confident that our team will make a strong impression on the regional stage,” she said.
This tournament could create memorable underpinnings for Zimbabwe's friendliness and sports development.
“This event marks a significant milestone for our sport, and we’re excited to showcase our country’s hospitality and promote footgolf,” Garira said.

She said the tournament stands as a learning point to develop this hybrid sport.
“Our goal is not only to compete but also to learn from other teams and grow the sport in Zimbabwe. We believe that footgolf can contribute positively to the country's development, and this event will help raise awareness and promote the sport,” Garira said.
The Zimbabwe Footgolf has extended a begging bowl to corporates and individuals to sponsor the team.
“As for preparations, our players — about 40 players — have registered, but some are facing financial problems. The Zimbabwe National Footgolf Team is self-sponsoring, and we're appealing for support in cash or kind from local businesses and philanthropists, which will be crucial in helping us deliver a memorable competition,” Garira said.
