BULAWAYO, Jul. 30 (NewsDay Live) — Bulawayo has launched a fundraising campaign to mobilise resources for athletes who will represent the province at the Zimbabwe National Youth Games and the Zimbabwe National Paralympic Games next month.
The Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Sports and Recreation Development Committee Board, in partnership with the Office of the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, will host a fundraising dinner on Friday at Hotel St Patrick’s.
Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Judith Ncube, patron of Team Bulawayo, is expected to lead the initiative aimed at ensuring the province sends a full team to the national competitions.
The Zimbabwe National Youth Games will run from August 12 to 18, while the Paralympic Games are scheduled for August 20 to 26, marking their return after a six-year hiatus.
In an invitation to potential sponsors, organisers appealed to the corporate sector, businesses and individuals to support the campaign through sponsorship packages and table purchases.
“The Office of the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, as Patron of Team Bulawayo for the Zimbabwe National Youth and Paralympic Games, in conjunction with the Bulawayo Metropolitan Provincial Sports and Recreation Development Committee Board, has the pleasure of inviting your organisation to come on board as our Provincial Platinum Partner in support of this worthy cause,” the invitation reads.
A table seating 10 costs US$500, while individual tickets are priced at US$50. Companies can also secure branding opportunities through banners, promotional displays and video presentations during the event.
Funds raised will go towards athletes’ preparations, travel and participation costs.

Organisers said the initiative was designed to help Bulawayo maintain its reputation as one of Zimbabwe’s leading sporting provinces by ensuring young athletes and para-athletes have the resources needed to compete at the highest level.
They urged the business community to back the campaign, saying investment in sport was an investment in the country’s future.
“Together, let us invest in our youth,” the organisers said.
