Platinum primed to burst Caps bubble

FC Platinum are hoping to the first side to breach the Caps United defence in their blockbuster clash at the National Sports Stadium tomorrow.

Caps United have kept clean sheets in all of their opening matches of the current Castle Lager Premier Soccer League campaign, which has put them at the top.

Undoubtedly, this looks set to be an intriguing battle for supremacy between childhood friends, Lloyd Chitembwe and Norman Mapeza.

Chitembwe has led CAPS United to a bright start this season, as the 2016 champions started the season with an impressive win over Manica Diamonds, followed by a goalless draw with Ngezi Platinum.

They beat ZPC Kariba and Black Rhinos in the other two matches, respectively.

On the other hand, Mapeza and his FC Platinum have been decent, with the 2-1 defeat to Highlanders a fortnight ago, as their only blemish.

However, FC Platinum coach Mapeza is hoping to shred the form book and hand CAPS United their first defeat of the season.

The platinum miners are, however in mourning following Platinum Queens' netball star Sbekezelo Ncubewho died suddenly on Thursday.

Mapeza said the club was going through a difficult time and hoped that it won't affect the players in tomorrow's match.

"It hasn't been easy for us. We lost one of our sisters from the Platinum Queens. We are trying to cope with the situation.

"Everyone is down following the development. We have been preparing well. We know the challenge. Caps United have been playing well, playing brilliant football.

"They haven't been conceding. They are well organised in every department. It’s not to be easy. It’s all about mental strength.

"My biggest fear is I hope the boy won't het affected by what happened yesterday. We are going try and get a result against all odds," Mapeza said.

The last meeting between the two sides ended in 2-2 draw back in October. FC Platinum had won the first meeting 3-0 at Mandava Stadium.

They welcome Kelvin Mangiza who missed their last match against Bulawayo Chiefs due to illness.

Veteram defender Gift Bello remains on the sidelines, recovering after rapturing his Achilles tendon.
