HARARE – Zimbabwe’s national infrastructure drive and growing investment in sporting facilities will take centre stage at this year’s Zimbabwe Property Excellence Awards, with organisers introducing new categories that recognise projects supporting economic growth, community development and national transformation.
The awards, which form part of the third Zimbabwe Property Expo scheduled for 19–21 August 2026 at the Celebration Centre in Harare, have expanded to include Government Infrastructure Projects and Sports Infrastructure, reflecting the increasing importance of strategic infrastructure investment in Zimbabwe's development agenda.
The introduction of the Sports Infrastructure category comes against the backdrop of Government's decision to incentivise private sector investment in sporting facilities through measures announced in the 2026 National Budget.
Presenting the Budget, Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube announced that companies constructing, upgrading or refurbishing public sports facilities would qualify for an accelerated capital allowance of 150 percent over two years, alongside duty relief on specialised stadium equipment. The measures were introduced to encourage greater private sector participation in the development of sporting infrastructure.

The Government Infrastructure Projects category will recognise outstanding infrastructure initiatives undertaken by Government ministries, departments and agencies that have made a significant contribution to national development. The category acknowledges the critical role public infrastructure continues to play in improving service delivery, expanding economic opportunities and creating an enabling environment for investment.
The Sports Infrastructure category celebrates developments that are strengthening Zimbabwe's sporting ecosystem while creating wider economic and social benefits. Modern sporting facilities have increasingly become catalysts for tourism, real estate development, community recreation, youth empowerment and investment.

The category also reflects the growing recognition being accorded to organisations investing in sports infrastructure. The Sports and Recreation Commission has previously honoured projects including Chahwanda Stadium in Kwekwe, Geo Pomona's sporting facilities, The Hills Golf Resort developed by West Properties, and Sakunda Energy's contribution towards the renovation of the National Sports Stadium. These investments demonstrate how collaboration between the public and private sectors is helping transform Zimbabwe's sporting landscape.
Beyond recognising excellence, the Zimbabwe Property Awards seek to inspire continued investment in infrastructure that supports inclusive economic growth, sustainable urban development and improved quality of life.
