Newly-appointed Bulawayo Chiefs coach Lizwe Sweswe says he is focused on rebuilding the Ninjas

Newly-appointed Bulawayo Chiefs coach Lizwe Sweswe says he is focused on rebuilding the Ninjas into a force to reckon with after financial challenges last year forced a mass exodus of players.

The club failed to pay players for months and some senior players left the team for greener pastures.

Coach Nilton Terroso did not return to Zimbabwe for the new season, while his assistant Thulani Sibanda also quit the club and has since joined Triangle as head coach.

Chiefs then swooped on Sweswe from Talen Vision in the Zifa Southern Region Division One Soccer League.

Sweswe won the 2019 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with FC Platinum.

“First of all, we tried to bring confidence back to the owners of the club, the players and the fans that the club is still alive. It is promising. I am not worried about the problems that Bulawayo Chiefs had in the past, but I am building a new side that will compete,” Sweswe said.

The Ninjas will play the Mkhokheli Dube-owned Zebra Revolution in practice matches either at the Chiefs Village or at Crescent Club this morning.

They lost quite a number of players in Kelvin Madzongwe (now at Caps United), twins Kevin and Elvis Moyo and Arthur “Diego” Musiyiwa, who joined Dynamos.

Perfect Chikwende made a return to FC Platinum.

Goalkeeper David Bizabani has been linked to newboys Green Fuel, with Lucky Ndlela said to be at Triangle.

The Ninjas retained Obriel Chirinda, Malvin Mkolo, Billy Veremu, Mthokozisi Msebe, Ben Nyahunzvi and brought on board former Warriors skipper Danny Phiri, William Stima and Stanson Khanye from Division One side Quality Foods.
