TSHWANE — Mamelodi Sundowns’ new signing Khama Billiat (pictured above) had a narrow escape at the weekend when his car crashed into a tree, but he suffered only minor bruising, the club announced in a statement yesterday.

The club’s doctor Carl Tabane said Billiat suffered minor bruises to his neck and chest, but “should be back to full health in no time”.

But Sundowns have told him to rest after the accident in which his car veered off the road and hit a tree.

He, therefore, misses the next South Africa’s Absa Premiership match against Free State Stars at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria tomorrow.

“We are glad to announce that Khama escaped the accident, which could have been worse considering that he avoided an oncoming car.

“Just as a precautionary measure, the player has been given a few days off and will be further assessed when he returns to training on Tuesday,” the club statement said.

Billiat was a record-breaking signing for Sundowns in August and has made an impact already with three goals for his club this season.

The 23-year-old Zimbabwe international has made six starts for his new club.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter will be without midfield enforcer Willard Katsande for tonight’s Premiership clash with Ajax Cape Town in the Mother City.

Katsande is suspended for the game after picking up his fourth yellow card in the 1-1 draw with Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates last month.

Amakhosi strikers Knowledge Musona (shoulder) and Kaizer Motaung Junior (knee) are also expected to miss out as they continue to receive treatment for their respective knocks.

Baxter, meanwhile, feels the Urban Warriors, former home to Billiat, have shown they are capable of causing problems for his outfit.

“Sometimes they play very good football,” Baxter told his club’s official website.

“They have the points so far in the league but they are not happy with their log position. Ajax have done well in many games.”

The Briton added: “It is important to go out there and do the job. It will be folly of us to think that we are untouchable and we can’t lose. They beat us there last season (3-1).”

Chiefs are sixth on the table with 12 points – three points behind leaders Moroka Swallows, who have played an extra match, and six in front of 14th-placed Ajax.
