AT least 50 local church choirs will battle out in the revamped Christian choral music group competitions slated for December at the Celebration Centre.

The choral music competitions under the banner of Choral Music Uniting the Christian Community (CMUCC), will feature church choirs from the country’s 10 provinces.
CMUCC chairperson Bagdadiy Mwanyali said his committee has lined up two fundraising concerts as they do not have corporate sponsorship.
“The competition is interdenominational and all Christian churches are welcome to join, even Zimbabweans in the region can affiliates as long as they are from a church set-up.

“We have lined up fundraising concerts in Harare and Chitungwiza on the 12th and 19th of September 12 and 19, 2015 respectively,” he said.
Mwanyali said the idea to revamp interdenominational choral music competitions came after realising that there are no more national music competitions for all churches under one roof in Zimbabwe.

He said the first concert slated for this weekend at Kuwadzana United Methodist Church will feature CCAP Voice of Mbare, Heavenly Praise and many other groups.
“One choir from AAFM Namibia had expressed interest in participating,” he said adding that 50 choral groups had already registered for the festival.
The choral music competitions will see the winner walking away $1 000 richer, with the runners-up getting $700 and $450 for second and third prize respectively.
National choral competitions in Zimbabwe were popularised in the 90s by Colgate Palmolive and later continued under Econet Wireless sponsorship and Musanhi Investments.
