In a statement, the UN said Kalapurakal assumed her duties on June 1 following approval by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

She takes over from Edward Kallon.

Kalapurakal brings more than 25 years of experience within the United Nations system, having worked in policy development, programme management and sustainable development across several UN agencies.
