Chivaviro readies 22nd album

Local News

Award-winning gospel musician Togarepi Chivaviro is preparing to release his 22nd album, Nyasha DzeGokwe, which is set for launch on Aug. 8 in Gokwe.

The six-track album will be unveiled at Leisure Lounge in Gokwe, the town where Chivaviro was born and raised.

Speaking from his base in the United Kingdom, the “Ebenezer” and “Tiri Munyasha” hitmaker said both the album title and launch venue were inspired by his roots.

“I was born and bred in Gokwe. That is where my roots are. I did my primary education in Gokwe; that is my home,” Chivaviro said.

“A lot of things happen in the cities. I launched many of my previous albums in Harare, Johannesburg and London.

“But last year I thought of going back to my roots, which is Gokwe. People often focus on the stigma associated with Gokwe — a place linked to witchcraft, neglect and ridicule.

“Yet Gokwe has produced many outstanding people in politics, sport, the arts and entertainment. I will be launching my latest album in Gokwe for the people of Gokwe. It is about setting a precedent.”

Chivaviro said the album’s title reflects a message of hope and transformation.

“We, as people from Gokwe, should be role models. The album title says it all. If grace locates you, it transforms your life regardless of where you come from.

“Biblically, Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem, a place few expected would produce the Messiah. I am a testimony that God has graced me from Gokwe.”

The album’s title track, Nyasha DzeGokwe, features musician Obert Chari, popularly known for the hit song “Mebo.”

Chivaviro’s recent albums include Handinyarare (2017), Matishamisa Jireh (2018), Excellent (2019), Kana Wayambuka (2021), The African Social Gospel (2022), Famba Usacheuke (2023) and It Is Well (2025).
