The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) is drafting Zimbabwe’s National Programme of Action, aimed at translating governance recommendations to concrete reforms.

This follows a four-day technical workshop held in Harare, focusing on converting findings from Zimbabwe’s Targeted Review Report to actionable steps to strengthen governance systems, enhance accountability and drive socio-economic transformation under the African Union framework.

Speaking on behalf of Zimbabwe’s APRM focal point and secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade Albert Chimbindi, chief director for Multilateral Affairs, Petronellah Nyagura, said Zimbabwe’s participation in APRM was anchored on constitutionalism and good governance principles.

Nyagura highlighted the constitutional basis for reforms, citing section 9, which mandates the State to promote efficient, transparent and accountable governance.

Director for country reviews in the APRM directorate, Rachel Mukamunana, said the process sought to develop a comprehensive action plan aligned with the National Development Strategy 2.

She underscored the importance of political will, institutional coordination and aligning reforms with available resources.

“Effective implementation requires strong leadership, clear priorities and alignment between ambition, capacity, and resources,” she said.

The workshop is expected to produce a structured national programme of action to guide governance reforms in line with national priorities.
