A 31-YEAR-OLD man from Nyeve village, under Chief Skobokobo’s jurisdiction in Nkayi, has been remanded in custody after he appeared in court of the theft of a 12V battery.

The stolen battery, which was recovered, is valued at US$200.

Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware remanded Njabulo Ncube for trial.

The complainant in this case is Caline Moyo (57) of Redwood compound in Figtree and is employed as a security guard at Redwood Ultra City.

Prosecutor Shiela Nyathi told the court that on the morning of March 1, Ncube entered Redwood Ultra City garage, where he detached a Taurus 12V battery from the generator and went away with it.

The court heard that Ncube was seen by Moyo, who was on duty, and he alerted his colleague Bothwell Tshuma.

Upon realising that he was seen, Ncube allegedly dropped the battery behind the bar, which is about 50 metres from the garage and ran away.

The two security guards chased after and apprehend him, after which he was taken to the police.
