Beware of being crushed, Mnangagwa warns

Local News
PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday vowed to crush Zanu PF supporters, bent on sabotaging the ruling party, saying those that are tired should leave and let others continue with the journey.

Mnangagwa made the remarks during the party’s central committee seating at the national headquarters in Harare amid increasing infighting within Zanu PF over succession.

A section of the party supporters has been agitating for the extension of Mnangagwa's tenure until 2030, incensing those who believe the party should adhere to the constitutional two-term limit.

Mnangagwa has, however, indicated that he will step down in 2028 when his term ends, allowing Zanu PF supporters and Zimbabweans in general to choose their next leader.

“There is no one person or group of people, who own the party. There is no one who is superior to others. Collectively, we are what Zimbabwe is; we are what Zimbabwe can be. Never look down upon yourselves or on others,” he said while addressing the party’s central committee in Harare.

“If you stop or if you want to stop the Zanu PF train, beware of getting crushed. If you want to stop it, you can wait on the sideway and remain quiet. When your energy comes back, you can then rejoin the train.”

Mnangagwa reiterated that divisive elements will not be tolerated in the ruling party.

“Party cadres serving as office bearers in local authorities and in the National Assembly are challenged to remain embedded in communities, addressing their needs through tangible and transformational projects and activities,” he said.

“We must never trivialise or take for granted the trust and confidence bestowed on us by the people when they resoundingly voted for our colossal party.”

Mnangagwa called on the ruling party to start planning for the 2028 harmonised elections, with plans to work on strengthening the grassroots structures. He called on central committee members to abstain from corrupt activities.

“We must remain alert, raising the political consciousness of grassroots structures so that they are well informed to defend, safeguard and advance our national development agenda,” the Zanu PF first secretary said.

“All Zimbabweans are welcome in Zanu PF, all of us have a role to play and a contribution we can make, for the prosperity of our beloved motherland, Zimbabwe.

“It is, therefore, of critical importance that we introspect as a party, not only with regards to our short-term activities, but also in view of the bigger objective of ensuring that our party resoundingly wins the 2028 harmonised elections.”

He said corruption of any kind and excesses that alienate Zanu PF from the people can never be condoned.

“Integrity, discipline and unity, concern for the people and clean governance must be synonymous with Zanu PF,” Mnangagwa said.

“As provided for in our party constitution, we have a duty to boldly and decisively deal with those who put the name of the party into disrepute.”
